[help] I Need a Pretty Not-Too-Stuffy WordPress Theme

I’m having a designer custom build one for me, but I want to change over to another theme in the interim. I’m tired of browsing about, so I thought it would be a fun experiment to see what answers you’d come up with, and maybe, in the answers, help someone else.

Here’s what I want:

  1. It’s got to be widget ready.
  2. 2.2 compatible
  3. Make it easy for me to switch to the same blue background as this site, and incorporate a dark blue header.
  4. Tabbed-like header navigation would be nice.
  5. Has to have three columns.
  6. The two narrow columns I would want on the right.
  7. Very light on images - I have a good amount of dial-up population still. I prefer to use color in the template so I can use images in the posts.
  8. Fast loading.
  9. I want a professional look, but I don’t want it to look all corporate and stuffy. Ew.

If you’ve got a suggestion, leave me a link.

I just switched over to a template provided by Michael Fortin. He also has a three column format: http://www.michelfortin.com/clean-copy-right-and-full-wordpress-themes/

Looks awesome, thanks Howard. I’ll see if I can get those two columns on the right, cuz if so we’d be in business.

I’d love to get a custom theme done. Problem is, I’ve got so little cash. :(

Three column is definitely what I’d need, and with a darker color scheme. I don’t use widgets much, but support would be nice to have. I like that the theme I’m using now has the two thin sidebars on the right, but I don’t like how they’re coded.

I’ve also got a bug on my theme, where the footer rides up on the single post pages. Can’t figure it out.

I remember those days. Now I have the cash, and a designer who’s working with me on it, but not the time to really sit down and be extra specific about what I’d like. Which is probably driving Nina nuts… :)

What you could do is get a three column widget as close as you’d like it, then hire a graphics student to make you a header, or a beginning graphics firm that would do it for you for $10 - post to Craigslist and you’ll find one in a few days. Then network with friends to see who the inexpensive programmers are. If you have something to trade, bartering can work. Hope this helps!
