Use your blog as a traffic generator for your lead capture page.

One clear advantage that a blog has over other ways to manage content is that there are specific website traffic opportunities open to it that you just can’t get for a static commercial site.

When you start using those methods, link from every page to your ……

That’s from an inspired article I wrote exclusively for another site that handpicks its authors. (How do you get on these high profile sites? Besides writng the best content you possibly can? Be nice and helpful to nice, helpful people and those people seem to go out of their way for you, too. Imagine that.)

And you want to know who’s good people? Allan Gardyne. And I’ve been saying that way before he ever published anything of mine. Genuine, smart guy who writes short, polite emails even when you screw up typing your own email address!

And no, I’m not telling you THAT embarassing story….

Anyway, even though I spelled Allan’s name wrong in my newsletter (though not on this main blog here that I wrote about the newsletter :) ), he was kind enough to approve my application for an authoring account on his prestigious site, AssociatePrograms.com. I lurk in the forms over there a lot, enjoying the discussions and calling it “research”.

Which technically it IS, NOT procrastination.

In order to be an author there, one must be approved, and contribute exclusive content. So instead of publishing my article “7 Ways to Use Blogging to Increase Your Affiliate Income” here, I hereby encourage you to read it over yonder. Ta!

How To Get Unstoppable Traffic? Go Evergreen. Read the true story of how one of the site owners, ill and preparing to retire, created traffic so powerful that she couldn’t turn it off.

I completely agree about generating leads from setting up a blog, but unfortunately it will end up only being a small part of the big picture. Persistance in acquiring visitors, from anywhere is the key element. Getting an opt in list keeps them as “emailable visitors” until they “opt-out”.

    Good luck to all!

    Hi Nicole,

I get this question a lot and if there was a simple answer, well, why wouldn’t it be too obvious to ask about? On the other hand, it’s not so complicated that you can’t get the answer in a free resource like this one.

The internet now has evolved into patterns of conversation streams. If you want to get targeted visitors to your site who will buy or take the action you want, you have to get into that conversation stream.

The steps to do so are more complex - suggest that you start at the top of the page, click on How to Get Free Traffic, and just start going through the methods. I’m developing a product to show people where to start, how to put together a schedule of traffic generation based on their business model and what to do when, with a partner of mine. Its debut has been pushed back to Fall/Winter, but the information here should e enough to get you started.

    Thanks for coming by,

    Tinu

    Hi Jim,

I’d say that this would be true for a blog built to earn money from advertising, but read Marketing Sherpa’s research on blogs as lead generators. If you’re doing this process correctly, you’re not facing a lot of turnover on your list.

I also disagree that persistence in aquiring new visitors is a key element. You get a lot more mileage out of your business by repeatedly marketing to your existing database, getting to know them personally and helping them buy a variety of goods and services that will help them, than by constantly selling one thing to a steady stream of new clients.

    Thanks for commenting,

I totally agree with the ideas you have mentioned. But I got another suggestion for bloggers to find blogs that are of similar topics and ask for link exchange. They could go to blog directories (e.g. http://blogannounce.info) and then go to the category their blog belongs to and then visit other blogs. Post comments and then contact the blog owner. I like this method because similar blogs tend to attract the same targeted groups and thus are more likely to lead referrals. And by the way, bloggers could submit their blogs to directories and get more traffic.

    Tinu,
I grab this method as a way to try to contact you. I already tried via your forum & your phone number but I got no response.
I would like to learn as much as possible about Blogging. That’s why I want to order your ‘Rescue your blog’ program. But because I’m not living in the US I can’t use the Google Checkout method.
Please give me another option. For example PayPal.
Also please emaiul your answer to kurt.naulaerts@sk…

    Thank you.

The words aren’t big enough but I’ll use them anyway.

    THANK YOU!

My newest blog incorporates everything I have learned from
your ebooks and articles on blogging.

At only 3 mos old it now generates an average of 550 VERY
targeted hits a day and has been doubling every month.

The one varience is that I don’t use the actual blog software
comments section provided because of spam. My shoutbox
serves the same purpose and gets far greater response than my
comments sections ever did. PLUS NO SPAM!

Take a look when you get time; http://www.footologist.com

This is strictly an “affiliate promotion” blog and “scores” on
the first page of Google, Yahoo and MSN for dozens and
dozens of keyword phrases and is fast becoming THE
AUTHORITY SITE for it’s niche. All of the first page results
are in the 1 to 3 million indexed page category and now it
is showing many returns on first indexed pages in the 18 to
34 million indexed pages. Two first pagers were in the 74
million indexed pages! WOW - THANK YOU!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Really liked your information. BTW, now these days Search engine don’t prefer affiliate websites. This does not mean that you can not reach and boost up your website into search engine top rankings. What I think that affiliate marketing need more promotion and link building process than the normal merchant website.

  12. Tinu Abayomi-Paul (49 comments.) on May 6th, 2008 8:51 am

    Hi Jeff,

Search enginss may not like affiliate sites, but that’s exactly the point of having your own blog and lead capture pages. You get the interested party on a topical list, and then you send the offers via email, or for some, within a blog post, rather than sending them directly to the affiliate site in question.

Everything under the sun needs more promotion - more than normal merchant sites, I don’t know about that. Perhaps *better* promotion. And if you build the links to yourself, and then link out to the affiliate site, with a little more effort you’ve created a more long term relationship with the customers you’re sending off to buy things. They’ll trust you more if you build a better relationship with them.

    Thanks for your input.
